Program Overview

On June 15, following breakfast and opening remarks from P&R Dental Strategies’ CEO, Paul Sheils, and a keynote by Juan F. Yepes, Associate Professor of Pediatric Dentistry at Indiana University School of Dentistry, we get down to business for a day of discussion on dental informatics topics as well as learning sessions for attendees who want a deep-dive, hands-on experience with P&R Dental Strategies’ insights tools.

Learning track sessions will repeat so attendees can get as much of both tracks as they like.

Also not to be missed will be a lunchtime presentation by John Oswald CPA, PMP, CFE, Senior Project Director Federal Solutions at HMS on “Perspectives on the Direction of Health Care in the Federal Market.”

Informatics Sessions

Big Data, Big Trends: What’s New in Dental Informatics In this session, we’ll explore what’s new this year in informatics using trend analysis and P&R Dental Strategies’ cross-payer data warehouse to identify in-network and out-of-network market trends, workforce trends such as utilization differences by age group, effective discount in the aggregate and more. This presentation will be loaded with Big Data insights you won’t want to miss!

Adventures in Accuracy: State of the Industry in the Quest for a Clean Network Network Accuracy, development and management were on everyone’s mind in 2016 but one year later, where are we? We’ll dig into our data and examine where payers stand in the quest for a clean directory, look at quantifying the impact of abuse on networks, infrastructure development and best practices for enhancing credentialing activities. The session also plans to touch on the demographics of large groups/affiliated groups and the differences in behavior between DSOs and Individual providers.

Good, Better, Best: Leveraging Quality to Manage Costs and Deliver Innovative Solutions to Employers With the cost of dental care increasing, employers are making careful choices about how they structure benefits. Shifting to high-quality, cost-competitive providers is one way they’re looking to manage costs while offering better care. Using case studies, we’ll examine which claims relate to wellness and geographic variations as well as touch on everything from innovative compensation strategies like value based reimbursement to best practices in quality measurement and score cards.

Whodunnit? Spotting the Clues of Fraud, Waste & Abuse in Claims Data How large is the problem of dental fraud? This session will scrutinize the fraud patterns often observed in claims data, the growing problem of dental claims submitted to medical carriers and how a spectrum of review practices ranging from aggressive to lenient has a very real impact on the fraud, waste and abuse costs incurred by payers. Finally, we’ll reveal best practices for combating fraud such as smart claim selection and fraud alert strategies.

It’s All in the Rules: The Real Cost Impact of Review Policies Optimizing claim review isn’t just about clinical efficiencies. There are very real, material cost implications to the review policies and criteria set down by each payer. We’ll consider specific rules and quantify the potential cost impact of each to point to some best practices for streamlining the claim review process and lightening administrative load within a payer’s organization.

Learning Sessions

Turbocharge Your Provider Network: Network Development Module 3.0 is Here You may think you know P&R Dental Strategies’ Network Development Module (NDM), but now there’s even more to like about this versatile and powerful tool to build and manage a high-performing provider network! We’ll take a deep dive with the new NDM 3.0 update so you can learn about all the power user enhancements and features we’ve added as well as get a sneak peek at some enhanced analytics options we’re prototyping.

Taking Control of Over-utilization: The Utilization Management Module Our Utilization Management Module (UMM) is a great tool that allows payers to prioritize and address over-utilization by identifying and segmenting behaviors as well as profile providers and manage corrective actions. This in-depth review will present you with expert tips and best practices for getting the most out of the module. We’ll also introduce prototypes of enhanced analytics being considered for the UMM.
